Blog Post4 Tips For Writing and Sending Your Wedding Thank You Notes

wpengine July 20, 2018

If you are wondering if sending personal thank-you notes to your guests after receiving their wedding gift is still expected in today’s electronic world, the answer is yes! It is courteous to take the time to express your gratitude on paper to each guest who generously gave you a wedding present. It may seem like a tedious task but following our guide below will make it an easier and even enjoyable process.

Timeline

The timeline for sending your thank-you notes depends on when you received a gift. If guests sent you a gift before the wedding, typically you should send a thank-you note back within two weeks. However, for all gifts you received on or after your wedding day, you have up to three months to send a note.

Keep Information Together

Grab your guest list (with mailing addresses included) and record what each person gave you on the same document as you open your gifts. This will save you time later when you go to write the notes because you won’t have to flip through multiple documents for the information. Then write the date that the thank-you note was completed next to their name.

Be Specific

When writing, you want to be specific to show your guest that you truly appreciate their gift and enjoyed their presence at your wedding. Write out a description of the present or if they gifted money, explain how you plan to use it in the future. Most importantly, thank them for attending your wedding and being a part of your special day.

Who Writes The Notes?

Writing thank-you notes is no easy task, especially if you try to do it all on your own. Try splitting up the duties with your spouse. One person could do the organization; then the other writes out the notes. Another easy way to split the task is for each of you to write the notes for your sides of the family and friends. This makes keeping track of the guest list easier and allows you to make the message as personal as possible.
