We all know that weddings are more than just the day we say “I do.” Your story began months if not years before. Many friends and family know parts of your journey, some were actually part of it. Bespoke wedding stationery is a great way to bring your guests into your story, allowing them to relive your journey as a couple beginning with the Save The Dates all the way to your Wedding Programs, Menus and even Couples Cocktail Signage.
Read on to see how one Washington, DC couple shared their story through bespoke wedding stationery created by Serena Martin Design, a boutique illustration and stationery studio based in Washington, DC.
Save The Date
Serena Martin Design kicked off Jonathan and Madison’s custom stationery with their Save The Date Cards. It featured a whimsical illustration of the two of them in Washington, DC, the city where they met and choose to call home. Of course, their pup, Rufus, was included in the illustration, which was inspired by their engagement photoshoot with Mathy Shoots People.
The next bespoke illustration was a watercolor crest to include on their wedding invitation– Madison is from Texas (represented by the toro on the left) and Jonathan is from North Carolina (panther on the right).
Details Card With Map
Serena also painted a custom map to include in the invitation suite, which showcased Jonathan and Madison’s home in Woodley Park, ceremony/reception venue, welcome party location and the location of their after party at their favorite DC sports bar, McIntyre’s. Both are big NFL fans. Their engagement photos even included them wearing hometown jerseys at McIntyre’s.
Rehearsal Dinner Invitation
The Rehearsal Dinner was held at the place of their first date – a Turkish restaurant called Agora in the Dupont neighborhood, which was depicted in an illustration on their invitations.
The bespoke designs didn’t stop at the invitations for Jonathan and Madison. Serena created their ceremony program. Their wedding took place in April during cherry blossom season, so cherry blossoms were a consistent motif throughout their designs.
They wanted their guests to celebrate their union and to share with them a slice of their life. Through their bespoke wedding stationery, they were able to tell family and friends their story.
