Don’t let their soft, playful exterior fool you. Beyond the chevron, stripes, florals and other cheery patterns in a host of hues, every dollar made from the volunteer sewn B-More Bags collection funds a serious cause. The collection benefits House of Ruth Maryland, which provides critical services for victims of intimate partner violence, including an emergency shelter, legal services and counseling, along with community education and an abuse intervention program.

A B-More bag or accessory makes for a memorable way to thank your wedding party in a way that reflects each recipient’s personality. Consider filling a cosmetic bag or clutch with wedding day beauty essentials or dressing up a gift card with a cloth business card holder. The collection offers pieces at a variety of price points, starting at $12 for the card holders. There are also totes, wine bottle bags, handbags and more. B-More Bags are made locally from donated designer fabric and trims, jewelry and embellishments.

You’re invited to raid Ruth’s Closet, House of Ruth’s resale boutique, in Owings Mills, on Saturday, December 8th for the 14th annual B-More Bags trunk show from 10 am to 5 pm. The annual event features the largest selection of B-More Bags produced throughout the year and is also a perfect time to stock up on holiday gifts. Ruth’s Closet features a smaller selection of the bags year-round. They are also available at Wells Discount Liquors in Baltimore, near Towson, and at select craft shows.

There are “lots of great opportunities for a bride to personalize B-More Bags and know it’s not just a gift, but that it is helping the community,” says Cheri Parlaman, House of Ruth Maryland’s Chief Communications Officer, who went a similar route when she got married. She gave each of her bridesmaids a personalized toiletry bag filled with lotion in their favorite scent. “I wish I had known about B-More Bags for my wedding!” says Cheri.

B-More Bags are the brainchild of Terri Wurmser, who was Director of Programs when she came up with the idea for the line. Today, she and a group of volunteers continue to donate their time to sewing the bags.
