A few weeks ago, I attended a friend’s wedding. Fall was in the air; the beautiful natural backdrop of the changing leaves was stunning, everyone was dressed to the nines, and the bride looked amazing. Clearly, every detail had been impeccably planned! While no children were on the guest list, the cutest flower girl and ring bearer walked down the aisle before the bride made her entrance.
As the flower girl tossed her petals, the ring bearer followed behind…at about 3 years old, he couldn’t seem to understand why this girl was throwing things! He proceeded to loudly call out to his mother – “Mama! Mama! She’s making a big mess!” – and started picking up the flower petals and putting them in his pockets, handing them to guests, attempting to clean up. The crowd started with a smiling murmur that grew to full on laughter as the sweet little boy kept on trying to help.
His mother came to the rescue within 30 seconds of this, and took him by the hand to get him seated. This short burst of unexpected silliness, while certainly not in the plan, was one of the topics of conversation for the guests all through the evening.
The wedding party got a good laugh at a time when they might have been nervous and the guests experienced a memorable moment together. Rather than stressing over things like this, which are truly out of your control, embrace them. They might just be one of the favorite memories of your wedding.
