Blog PostRealistic Expectations For Your Wedding Party

wpengine June 22, 2018

Once you have selected your group of family and friends who are happy to be a part of your wedding party, it’s important to know the difference of what you can ask of them and what is out of the question. Below are a few realistic expectations to avoid misunderstandings during the planning.

Do: Expect They Pay For Their Attire

You should set expectations as early as possible to let your wedding party know of any expenses and duties you plan on asking them to take care of. For example, it’s common to ask the wedding party to pay for their own attire.

Don’t: Expect Them To Pay For Professional Services

You shouldn’t expect your wedding party to pay for makeup, hairdos, manicures, pedicures, spray tans and more for your wedding, unless you offer to pay. Keep in mind, they might be pitching in for other aspects of your celebration (bachelor/bachelorette party, travel, wedding gift) so you don’t want to add onto their expenses.

Do: Expect Your Honor Attendant To Help Plan Events

Your matron/maid of honor or best man has a special job. They are there to help you with the planning process, be a listening ear and offer advice when needed. You should be clear about your expectations, but generally, they should be ready to assist with organizing the wedding shower and bachelor/bachelorette party, coordinating attire fittings for the wedding party and other helpful tasks such as addressing invitations.

Don’t: Expect Them To Drop Everything For An Event

Your wedding party will try their best to be involved in the process as much as possible, but you must remember they have their own personal and professional lives too. You can try to work around everyone’s schedule, but be understanding if they can’t make it to every pre-wedding celebration due to other commitments.
