Blog PostPlanning Your Engagement Party

wpengine December 15, 2017

Congratulations, you’re engaged! Start planning the engagement party to celebrate with your family and friends any time after the proposal. This is a time to share your excitement and maybe a few preliminary ideas about your wedding, with both of your families and close friends.

Where To Start

Tradition is out the window. Any time is the right time. Any place is the right place. This is all about sharing your joy. The party can be thrown by one set of parents, by both sets of parents chipping in together or the couple- it’s all up to you!

Invitations

Traditional Invitations, e-vites or word-of-mouth are all acceptable today. Simply let your guests know the details about the celebration: include the date, time, location, type of attire and how to RSVP.

Gifts

If you decide to let guests know that you will be accepting gifts, which is becoming more common, register beforehand. These gifts are less expensive than wedding presents, so factor that in when registering.

Party Favors

The engagement party is a celebration for you and your partner. The main focus is on the two of you and celebrating your love. Consider the option of saying thank you to the guests who have supported you, by providing a nice gesture like a small party favor. Party favors can be personalized glasses or save-the-date magnets that double as reminders for your wedding date.

Activities

This is a time that both of your families might be getting together for the first time. Many of your guests will be meeting for the first time as well. Games and activities are the perfect way to break the ice and allow your extended families to bond and get to know each other on a more personal level. Some ideas include “Bling-O,” a twist on the classic Bingo game by incorporating images and phrases that relate to the couple, the Happy Couple Game, in which guests write down as many words as possible by only using the letters in the first names of the couple and The NewlyWed game, where the couple answers personal questions about each other in front of their guests.
