My husband and I were married here in August 2017 and we are still in awe at the beauty and magic that day was for us. Julie was our coordinator, and I can’t compliment her enough. She was organized, helpful, and extremely calm. She answered our questions prior to the day with promptness and gave extremely valuable advice to simplify the planning process. The day of, she was always two steps ahead of me taking care of small details that I was worried would be forgotten. We were married in the Pine Cathedral and despite being August, the weather was a cool 68 degrees. In the lodge, dinner was stunning and everyone loved the uniqueness of the tree room for cocktails and dancing. The venue is so beautiful that you do not need many decorations. For us, it was perfect to have the dancing in a space that allowed for alternative activities including smores, outdoor photobooth, and porch sitting. I’d recommend Thorpewood a hundred times over for anyone who is interested!

Jenny said… Thorpewood is so incredibly gorgeous of a venue that that in itself deserves 5 stars. It is a huge property that has multiple beautiful options for the ceremony and perfect for pictures. You also get the venue for 8 hours so you don’t have to feel rushed and have more flexibility on when things start. However, Thorpewood is made even more amazing by the team there. Lexi was my coordinator but I also worked with Julie. They are both so responsive, communicative, and experienced. Lexi gave me great ideas and feedback. She was also amazing the day of my wedding, keeping everything moving according to schedule. Everything about this venue is on point and I am so lucky to be able to have my wedding here. I literally cannot recommend them enough!!

ThorpeWood is truly a beautiful venue, and the people there make everything wonderful. Julie was our point-of-contact, and she was amazing! She always responded quickly to my e-mails, and she walked us through our entire wedding timeline. She thought of things that we would have overlooked and made sure our event went off without a hitch.

Excellent space for our wedding! Lexi and staff made sure our day was special and smooth and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. The only drawback was the severe mud that was all over the driveway and parking area that our guests had to trudge through. But overall, highly recommend.

Thorpewood is not only a beautiful venue, but it’s a responsible venue, with eco-friendly features and their dedication to giving back to the community. The staff who I worked with from the day I booked the venue until after the wedding ended were fantastic, responsive, flexible, accommodating and kind. They day was organized and comfortable and took so much off of our shoulders as my husband and I tried to take in the day and pay our respects to the friends and family who came to celebrate with us. There are things we look back and wish we’d done differently in planning our wedding, but we wouldn’t change anything about our experience with Thorpewood.

The staff is amazing. So pleasant to work with and they were so personable. Love the venue, there are so many different areas to choose from when planning the wedding. They are flexible and actually able to be if changes need to be made for the weather. LOVE this place, it was perfect!

It was a storybook wedding! Our guests and friends are still talking about the beautiful venue. Lexy and Julie took care of all the details so all we had to do was enjoy the day!

The staff could not have been more helpful. Not only did they honor our wishes, but made helpful suggestions that made the day even more enjoyable. Every need was anticipated and executed flawlessly.

I tried real hard to find something to complain about. But I couldn’t find anything. Julie and her “crew” took care of everything. From the first day she showed us around to the last hour they were packing up our stuff, they were great. She even came by to tell me my dinner was getting cold because I was too busy shmoozing with all the guests. I am the father of the groom and a bit of a control nut. Naturally I wanted everything to be perfect, Julie asked us to trust her. We (my wife and I) were just like the guests, enjoying ourselves and mingling because Julie and her crew took care of everything. It was a great evening, couldn’t say enough good things about it. Thanks again.

My husband and I just had our wedding at Thorpewood (July, almost 150 guests), and we want to say a great big thank you to Julie and her staff! If you have visited, you know that the property is beautiful, and we used several different parts of it for our wedding and photos (including the arboretum, pine cathedral, stone bridge, lodge, and cottage). Our guests raved about how gorgeous the location was. We gave our guests maps to get from Frederick to Thorpewood, and the drive didn’t seem to be a problem. We also found that things at Thorpewood were very well run. We always had access to the property when we needed to, say, meet with our florist or have our rehearsal. Julie was fun to work with and clearly knew what she was doing, coordinated well with our vendors, and when we asked for a few things that hadn’t been done before, she figured out how to make them work. Our final walk-though meeting in particular made it clear that we were in good hands, and Julie was an *excellent* day-of coordinator. We worried about nothing, and had a fantastic day. I’ll also add that this is a very friendly location for same-sex couples. We recommend spending your wedding night in the cottage by the pond. Also, we thoroughly enjoyed the horses! Thank you, Julie and everyone at Thorpewood!

My husband and I wanted a venue somewhere between Cumberland, MD and California, MD. Needless to say we had many to choose from. Despite the lengthy list of potential venues, Thorpewood was the first and only venue we toured. We loved everything about it. Thorpewood is a huge property, with many possible ceremony locations. We ended up choosing the Dawn Redwood area, but all are beautiful. The lodge is amazing, very rustic and cozy. One of the other great things about Thorpewood is Julie, the venue coordinator. To say she is amazing would be an understatement. Being a first time bride and huge worrier, I had hundreds of questions throughout the planning process. She was great about being patient with me and answering all of them. We had a lot of décor (which is not typical for weddings at Thorpewood). She worked with us and a lot allowed us extra time the day before the wedding to get things set up, even offering suggestions as to where to place things. Julie is great about keeping things on track. She made sure rehearsal went smoothly, despite the large wedding party and the few late comers. Julie did a great job of working with all of the vendors (vintage rental company, florist, photographer, and caterer). It was so great to know that she had a handle on everything the day of. I didn’t have to worry about anything. Her staff is great about showing guests where to park and answering any questions they may have. We had an issue with my maid of honor’s dress the day of the wedding which caused a delay, she was very accommodating in allowing us the time to fix it. She made sure the bridal party and groomsmen were kept separate, as my husband and I did not do a first look. She made sure everyone was where they needed to be, and made sure everything went flawlessly. I would highly recommend Thorpewood, not only for its beauty, but also for Julie! Not to mention the awesome caterer Canapes… you won’t be disappointed!

At the risk of sounding totally cheesy: our wedding at ThorpeWood was magical. ThorpeWood is an absolutely beautiful location, and the staff at Mountain Memories know just how to put a wedding together. We had our ceremony in the Pine Cathedral, but if the forecast calls for rain, there is also a pavilion right next to the lodge. Our reception was held in the lodge, which was just as picturesque as the Pine Cathedral. They easily accommodated our 92 guests, put out our decorations for us, and helped guide everyone from the parking lot to the ceremony site to the reception. If you choose TW, you *are* locked into their in-house caterer, Canapés. This worked out great for us, as they had the expertise to rock the vegan menu and cake we requested (and we got a ton of compliments about it), but they are a little on the pricey side. What we spent with Canapés, we made up with how affordable ThorpeWood’s (long!) timeslot was, and all the headaches we saved trying to do all the planning ourselves. I could go on and on, but pictures probably speak for themselves: https://flic.kr/s/aHsk5wL9PH

The moment we saw Thorpewood in person we knew we had found our wedding venue. The retreated lodge in the Catoctin mountains accompanied by the changing leaves was absolutely picturesque. As incredible as the venue was, the staff may have been even better. We worked directly with Julie, who from the beginning told us that when you worked with her and her staff you wouldn’t need a wedding coordinator. How right she was! Every step of the way Julie was easy to communicate with and she was able to accommodate all our requests, and calm our worried minds when the wedding day got close. She took care of us, plain and simple, and on the wedding day she was on top of everything. Making sure vendors were in the right place and that everything was running on time. She also looked after us and helped the photographer for some of our final shots before golf carting us back to the lodge so we could have something to eat (Canapes is the required caterer for Thorpewood and they too were wonderful. Their food was delicious and they were able to accommodate our special meal requests while taking care of all our vendors). All in all the whole experience was incredible and we highly recommend Thorpewood not only for its beauty but also for the quality of people who work there.

Thorpewood was the perfect venue for my wedding. We were looking for something outdoorsy that was rustic yet comfortable. Thorpewood offers multiple options for outdoor ceremonies; we ended up using their “pine cathedral”, which was absolutely gorgeous. Lexi and Julie were wonderful to work with, flexible and professional both throughout the planning process and on the day of the wedding. Despite on-and-off rain on the wedding day, they did everything they could so we could still have our wedding outside, and it all worked out great. The in-house catering, Canapes, was delicious as well. On top of all that, they host programs to get inner-city children into the outdoors, so the money you spend funds both your wedding and other good causes. Overall, highly recommended!

This venue is absolutely beautiful! It is versatile and has a lot to offer for wedding sites! Julie is the GREATEST. Having her and Adrienne from Canapes Catering helping us with the planning completely made it unnecessary to hire a wedding planning.

Julie and Lexi were great and easy to work with. Our wedding was in December and Thorpewood set up a ginormous Christmas tree In the lodge which set a perfect backdrop to our wedding.

The wedding was tremendous! Many said it was the best wedding venue and wedding they had attended! Lexi did a wonderful job coordinating the whole event and leading your staff. From beginning to end she was truly a blessing ensuring all went forward according to schedule. She was delightful to work with and most gracious and accommodating. Each of your staff members was pleasant and worked hard to ensure all ran smoothly. Thank you again for the tremendous experience of working with you and Lexi.

ThorpeWood was the perfect place to have our wedding. The setting couldn’t have been more beautiful. Julie and her team went above and beyond to make the day as perfect as it could be. The team of professionals that work at this venue ensured every aspect of our day was exactly as we wanted it to be. I could not have been happier with the way our wedding turned out!
There were many reasons why ThorpeWood stood out as the venue of choice for our wedding. We considered the beautiful setting, the dedicated partnership of Julie and her staff throughout the process, as well as ThorpeWood’s support of important non-profit Organizations and environmentally responsible design. ThorpeWood is truly a special place. Simply walking the grounds, you’ll feel the positive energy and sense of peace. (Just go for a visit and check it out for yourself!) Beyond the place, though, the people of ThorpeWood are what make it truly stand out as a premier wedding venue. From our first visit, we were made to feel welcome. Julie personally explained all of the services, amenities, and requirements for a wedding at ThorpeWood, and provided not only recommended vendors with whom she has had great experiences to help with our planning, but also expert guidance and advice to help make our day uniquely ours. Every member of the staff at ThorpeWood was gracious, kind, and welcoming on each of our visits! On the day of our wedding, there was a high possibility of storms, and we had planned an outdoor ceremony. Julie made several phone calls to us that morning, watched the weather radar, and helped us to make the decision to move our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all into the lodge. We still had a beautiful, comfortable and memorable event. Julie and her team took care of all of our decorations, made a point of knowing who key guests were/ who needed special assistance, coordinated all other vendors, deliveries, and services, and basically ensured that the only thing my husband and I would have to think about that day was one another and enjoying our day! Guests commented that this was one of the most beautiful weddings they’d ever attended, and my husband and I have amazing memories of a day that was made even more special by the sincere care and dedicated efforts of the entire team at ThorpeWood!

Getting married at Thorpewood was a dream!!! While we had hoped for a warm day/outdoor ceremony initially, we are so thankful that we ended up with an inside ceremony! The vibe was cozy, rustic and warm with the fireplace going. Plus we still were able to get gorgeous photos around the property – Julie chauffeured us + our photographer around the property in a golf cart after the ceremony. Talk about service! Julie and her team was amazing. From the day we first toured the venue, my mom and I knew we would be in good hands. Julie was always prompt and cheerful in answering all (and there were plenty!) our questions, handled the wedding day timeline effortlessly to keep us on track and stress free, and offered us valuable tips on other vendors/decoration ideas/money saving ideas. You will not be disappointed with a wedding at Thorpewood!!! Our guests are still raving and we still cannot stop smiling! It was perfect : )

Our guests are still talking about what an amazing experience they had at Thorpewood! Julie and her staff were nothing short of amazing; they consulted us at every opportunity on the ‘little details’ and made the day transition smoothly. I knew the first time we visited this venue that it was special and this is where we would be married. I can’t wait to go back to visit and enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of this place! ThorpeWood is not only a beautiful location for a wedding and reception, but the staff was amazing. I attended a wedding last week at ThorpeWood and were pleasantly surprised to find the location was beautiful beyond words. It had an elegant, yet comfortable feel. The location spot on gorgeous and the evening progressed wonderfully. There were staff to guide guest to parking – so there was no fear of getting lost. Everyone we met was kind and went out of their way to be helpful. I was especially impressed with the supervisor, Lexi, who worked tirelessly the entire day. Her stamina was boundless, despite her bundle of joy that would soon be arriving. The wedding went on without a hitch, with the exception of the young couple getting married. I would be remiss if I did not mention that the wedding was catered by Renaissance Caterers. The chef really out did himself and served a variety of delicacies. Everything we tasted was yummier that the previous bite. The wait staff was phenomenal. My water glass was never empty and our waiter was eager serve. I highly recommend both ThorpeWood and Renaissance Caterers.

Dear Julie and Staff, It’s been a week and I can’t stop thinking about what a fantastic celebration we had last Saturday. Mark and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for creating the perfect day for Rob and Jessica’s wedding. From start to finish everything was perfectly executed. Our family and friends cannot stop talking about what an exceptional time they had. Many have said it was the best wedding they have ever attended. You ordered up the perfect weather for a perfect day. The Pine Cathedral was just right with the light streaming through the trees but yet a cozy breeze made it so comfortable for a wonderful service. The lodge at ThorpeWood was spectacular with its rustic atmosphere, delicious food, drinks, music and friendly staff. It could not have been a better day, and we are so pleased the weather turned out so beautiful for family and friends to enjoy an evening on the lovely patio and grounds taking in the outside beauty of the Catoctin Mountains. The lodge was amazing and we appreciate your attention to every detail that created such an inviting atmosphere for our guests! Thank you again for everything. We highly recommend ThorpeWood to anyone looking to get married in this magnificent mountain retreat.

I attended the wedding of a dear family friend at ThorpeWood. From the moment we arrived, the entire evening was perfect. Parking was a breeze, with plenty of staff to guide us. The outdoor ceremony was beautifully staged – very intimate, but not at all crowded, the seating perfectly arranged for a beautiful view. Perfect small touches, like fruit infused water on our way to and from the ceremony, were everywhere and made the evening feel very elegant. The cocktail hour was held in a simple barn, but again, the decorations and food made for the perfect relaxed opportunity to visit with other guests while we awaited our invitation to head over to the reception. Again, the parking attendants were very visible and guided us along the way. The lodge (which is a sight to behold), where the reception was held, has floor to ceiling screened windows; with twinkle lights and simple floral centerpieces, it was like enjoying a fancy dinner in the woods with fireflies (and without the mosquitoes). The lodge was full, but it never felt crowded. Downstairs, we enjoyed the evening dancing and relaxing on the enormous screened porch. The fun bartenders and photo booth made it easy to for everyone to be silly, adults and kids alike. Lexi and the entire staff were available and attentive the entire night, but blended in perfectly; I got the sense that everyone knew exactly how and when to do everything and anticipated our needs with perfect timing. My crab cake was beautifully presented and tasted delicious, and although I’m not usually a fan of wedding cake, this one held its own as dessert. Hannah and Dylan had a storybook wedding, and ThorpeWood was an enchanted forest. Elegant and magical, without any of the stuffiness of your usual formal affair. I almost wish my husband and I weren’t already married, just so we could do it here! There’s always our children’s weddings, right?
